The short version: Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something through one of these links, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products and services we genuinely believe are useful for Australian German learners.

What Is an Affiliate Link?

An affiliate link is a tracked URL that identifies AussieDeutsch as the source of a referral to a third-party website. When you click an affiliate link and complete a purchase (or in some cases, a signup or booking), the merchant pays AussieDeutsch a commission as a thank-you for the referral.

The price you pay is exactly the same whether you use an affiliate link or go directly to the merchant's website. Affiliate commissions are paid by the merchant from their marketing budget — they are not added to your purchase price.

Why We Use Affiliate Links

AussieDeutsch is a free resource. All articles, guides, and tools on this site are available at no cost to readers. Affiliate commissions help cover the costs of running the site — hosting, domain registration, research time, and content production.

Without affiliate income, maintaining and updating a site of this size would not be sustainable. Affiliate partnerships allow AussieDeutsch to remain free for Australian German learners.

How Affiliate Relationships Affect Our Recommendations

Affiliate relationships do not determine what gets recommended on this site. Our recommendations are based on what we genuinely believe is useful, accurate, and good value for Australian learners.

This means:

  • We recommend some products and services that do not have affiliate programmes (for example, Deutsche Welle's free courses, the Goethe-Institut's free sample papers, and Anki for desktop users)
  • We have declined affiliate relationships with products we do not consider genuinely useful
  • Where we have affiliate relationships with competing products, we try to give an honest comparison of both
  • Negative experiences or significant limitations are disclosed even for products with affiliate programmes

How to Identify Affiliate Links

We do not individually label every affiliate link within article text, as this creates an intrusive reading experience. Instead, articles that contain affiliate links include a disclosure notice at the top of the post, such as:

"This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase through these links, AussieDeutsch may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you."

If you are ever unsure whether a link is an affiliate link, you are welcome to contact us and ask.

Australian Consumer Law

This disclosure is provided in compliance with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) guidelines on affiliate marketing and sponsored content. AussieDeutsch is committed to honest and transparent communication with readers in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.
